We discussed the reason why the organization was founded by our President Deborah Salami, and the reason was that she believed there wasn't a community within the Criminology, Law, and Justice Society (CLJ) department. She didn't want for incoming freshman and students in all levels to feel they didn't belong and she wanted to inspire students to believe their major is unique and they are beyond just being a Police officer.
Our society was established to engage and power students who are interested in learning more and engaging in the discourse about the US Criminal Justice. The CLJ Student Society will further allow students within the UIC community to develops ways to make a difference within the CLJ department.
The Society's Faculty Advisor, Dr. Jessica Bird was present at the event. She updated us about the GEO strike and how we as an undergraduate student society can get involved. Thankfully, the GEO Strike ended after 3 weeks of Teaching Assistants (TA) and Graduate Students(GA) being on Strike.
We thank our university for adhering to the voice of the students, staffs, and members of the community.

Shared a message about Undergraduate Students participation on the strike on Friday April 5, 2019 by meeting in the quad to picket.
The CLJ Student Society are in support of the UIC GEO Strike 2020.
